Are you making an Impact?

Mar 08, 2013

A simple question, yet a difficult concept to master.

It’s very easy to get bogged down in the day-to-day sludge of what it is you’re doing (work, life, etc). What’s the saying? “You can’t see the forest for the trees,” or something like that. If you’re always in the “weeds”, how do you know if you’re moving the needle?

It comes down to this essential question – what impact are you making? If you’re trying to help someone with accomplish something, are you making a difference? If you’re trying to close a deal, what did you do today to get closer to your goal? If you’re trying to lose weight, did you gain and a half lb or lose a half lb today? Etc., etc.

I’m not saying the sludge isn’t important. You have to fight through it often times to get to where you want to go. What I am saying is it’s easy to get lost and to lose sight of the big picture. What is it you’re trying to accomplish – i.e. The Outcome…..and, what did you do today to get closer to that outcome? The rest is just details.

On another note, I’m really excited about The Catalyst Sessions kicking off (if you’re not in the loop, no worries…it’s an online interview show/conversation I just started – check out my first interview with author Danny Bader right here). I just had a great chat with Scott Dinsmore, the master of connecting with anyone at Live Your Legend. That will go live pretty soon. And….super excited that I’m talking with Bob Burg next week, author of the über impactful, The Go-Giver. I’m a bit of a rookie still in this whole video interview thing so bear with me. My plan is to showcase some real catalysts out there that are making a big impact. I believe it will really provide valuable insight into the hearts and minds of some amazing people.

Thanks for reading. Now, go make an impact!
