Clarity vs Motivation

“What people lack is clarity not motivation” – James Clear

James Clear spoke to our team this week and he got me thinking more about clarity vs motivation. It’s easier to “go with the flow” and not get really crystal clear about what you’re doing, chasing, seeking, etc. Lots of people seek motivation and want some magic thing to take hold and propel them to getting some profound stuff done. Motivation is fleeting….but clarity is something you can always define and leverage to keep moving forward.

Do you have clarity into what outcome you want to achieve or how you want to feel or impact you want to have or people you want to serve? What do you want to accomplish in the next 30 seconds? Or 30 minutes? Or 30 days? Or 30 months? Or 30 years? What habits to you want to cultivate? What do you want to start doing? Stop doing? Keep doing?

I encourage you to start to think about that. I like to think about it as three components- let’s call them A.I.A. The first step is Awareness. You must understand and have clarity around where you are. The second step is Intention…or understanding where you want to go. And, the third step is Action. And with the action always comes ups and downs so get ready for the ride and keep pressing forward despite the obstacles. But, you’ve got to get that clarity down first.
