Great Leaders are Mirrors

This past week I had the opportunity to spend time with a high-performing professional sports organization.

Two days entrenched with one of the hottest teams in Major League Soccer. I’ll share more on that experience soon—but let’s just say it was a full-circle moment that reminded me of something I’ve come to believe deeply:

The best leaders don’t just drive performance. They shape identity.

They reflect truth back to the people they lead—reminding them of who they are, what they’re capable of, and what they stand for.

In business, in sports, in life—this is the foundation.

Without identity, strategy falls flat.
Without belief, talent gets wasted.
Without clarity, growth stalls.

So, here’s a simple challenge for the week ahead:

  • Be a mirror for someone in your world.
  • Speak into their potential.
  • Reflect back the greatness they might not see yet.

That’s the hidden work of transformational leadership. It's what I’ll be writing more about soon as I unpack the lessons from this past week.

Lead well,

Jon
